The Not So Domestic Goddess

I have a problem.

I will admit it freely.

I hate housework.

I really, honestly despise the stuff.

But I still do it, even though it is a struggle. Although, with DD, it is becoming increasing difficult because she hates the vacuum cleaner when it is turned on, wants to ride it when it's turned off and crawls under the ironing board and wobbles it while I'm trying to iron.

And now, facing a return to work for a third full day per week, it's only going to get harder.

I know I could be doing some more housework now, but DD is napping, and I've been a good wifey and ironed hubby some work shirts for later in the week, when he goes back. He's got some time off for uni and only needs to wear casual stuff so there's no great drama there.

I purposely bought items that don't require ironing for myself. Wash 'em and hang 'em and they are fine!

But no matter what household chores I do, cyclone DD comes along and straight after the cleaning rag has been put away, or the vacuum cleaner has been unplugged, she will destroy a snack, or a magazine.

This kid shreds paper worse than a cat!

I'd prefer to spend my time watching cartoons with her, reading a book with her, or even running around the backyard like maniacs.

If it didn't cost so much, I'd hire a cleaning lady.

Yep.

I'm that lazy and not so domestic!

But I'm still a goddess. Don't you forget it.

Today I'm linking up with Essentially Jess for IBOT. Happy Tuesday everyone!

  1. I am with you! I hate cleaning, I make it a family affair on Saturday mornings, everyone pitches in. It helps everyone be aware of their own mess and responsibilities.

  2. I hate laundry - hanging and folding it, and mopping the floors. And cleaning the bathrooms. But I could vaccuum and make beds all day! It just makes things look that little bit tidier. I could be cleaning bathrooms and toilets now, but I am not. And I'm not gonna! :) -Aroha

  3. The two pieces of housework I hate are ironing (My husband does it but I really don't have any clothes that need ironing anyway) and hanging up the washing. What a shame DD doesn't like the vacuum. My son 20 months didn't like it until I gave him the little stick vac to play with, then I eventually turned it on and he got used to it. Now when I'm using the big vacuum he follows me around the house with the little stick vac, sometimes I even turn it on and let him do the vacuuming...does that make me a bad mum? hehe

  4. I hate housework too - we used to have Saturday morning as cleaning time - A vacuumed and cleaned the toilets, I dusted and did bathrooms, K did the blinds, shutters and windowsills. Recently we have been able to afford a cleaner - I don't begrudge one cent that I pay her !!! Having our Saturday mornings back is so good.
    Have the best day !

  5. Get a cleaning person - mine costs me $75 a fortnight, and while I still have to clean most days I get a thorough scrub of bathrooms, floors and dusting every two weeks, that's why I work OH and to put kids in daycare for some sanity!

  6. I am not a housework fan either. I am trying to change the way I look at it in the hope I will learn to love it. Sigh.

  7. I totally hate housework too. But I have soo many friends who are so OCD about it and LOVE it. I'm no domestic cleaning goddess and I don't want to be seen as a 50's housewife who is passionate about scrubbing the floors. It's brain numbing but unfortunately it has to be done right?

My husband says he doesn't have have tine to help me and his standards of cleaning is very different (e.g. it's okay for him to have dirty dishes in the sink for more than 2 days!!!) so he agreed to getting a cleaner for 2 hours a week. Prevents us from going to the divorce courts!

Found you via #ibot...exciting to find new blogs!

  8. Oh housework is never fun, but a necessity, doing "just enough" is more than you need. I used to fuss and stress over all the chores and then fuss and stress over all the extra chores that need to happen seasonally. I gave up and the fuss and the stress and it became so much better (oh and a cleaning lady every second week!) x

  9. I hate housework and am a firm believer that you don't need to have a house that resembles something out of home beautiful. DD isn't going to be a baby forever so soak up the time you get to spend together, the housework can wait.

  10. I think we have all been there, and don't worry it does get easier.
Having said that, my house is a disaster zone atm and I'm just ignoring it in favour of reading blogs :)

  11. I don't exactly hate housework, just hate the time it takes away from other more enjoyable things. I would definitely get a cleaning person if I could afford it! And I NEVER NEVER iron. Ironing is the devil's work! Why do men's clothes have to be ironed, and women's rarely do? Is it because men don't need to do their own ironing, so don't prefer to buy iron-free clothes?? Thought of the week..
